This winter, snow storms have been racing across the US at a rate of about one-a-week. So, if you live
anywhere, except the extreme southwest, it would be unreasonable to think that you won’t be hit by at least one storm, before spring arrives.
The first rule of thumb is, if you don’t have to go out during a storm, stay home. If you have no choice,
here are some easy, inexpensive ways to help you to survival kit essentials:
- Make sure the fuel tank in your car is at least 1/2 full.
- Carry an old blanket or a survival warmer, to prevent hypothermia.
- Pack a few energy bars and some water, to keep your strength up.
- Pack a flashlight, with extra batteries, or an emergency light for signaling help.
- Carry a small shovel and a cellphone charger to dig yourself out or to call for help.
Use these easy tips to avoid becoming a victim. Remember, it’s usually a lot easier to prepare for a winter snow emergency than it is to survive one.
